Transporter Bridge Centenary

Keith's photographs that inspired my work
You might remember from an earlier post that I designed a cushion with an image of this iconic local bridge screen printed on to it in foil. I then added a cosmic shower cascading down through the atmosphere above it in stitch. Well it was inspired by these brilliant photographs that my very talented nephew Keith took last year when he was paying a visit from his home in Dubai.

I didn't realise at the time that it was the 100 year anniversary of the completion of this bridge until a VIP guest at our degree show approached me. She said that she was very impressed with my design, that she had taken my card and would be in touch, as her organisation was looking for products to commemorate the event. Sadly she never did and I subsequently learned that I had missed the deadline for submitting proposals. C'est la Vie.

Yesterday I enjoyed a catch up session with Keith, the source of my inspiration, and related this tale to him and that is when he gave me the web details for his on line portfolio and I thought you might like to take a look at some of his amazing photographs.

  1. Mavis, I loved the Transporter Bridge design! Having just looked through Keith's Superb photos they kind of mirror my life a little too - growing up in the north east, growing older in the deserts of the UAE. I personally would love to see an Angel of the North and a mosque dome done in a similar manner to your Transporter Bridge - I've some fairly good pictures of the Sh. Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi that is a fairly spectacular piece of architecture and might work too.... *she says with her fingers crossed :-)
